Minibeasts Week – Exploring Caterpillars and Butterflies
This week our learning was focused on minibeasts, especially butterflies and caterpillars. The children took part in a range of exciting and hands-on activities to explore this topic.
We created a minibeast tuff tray, where children could investigate different insects, learn their names, and talk about where they live. This supported curiosity, language development, and early understanding of the world.
A special highlight of the week is our butterfly life cycle set. The children are observing real caterpillars, which are still growing and have not yet changed into butterflies. They will continue to watch this process over the coming week, learning about how living things grow and change over time.
We also enjoyed rhyme time and story sessions linked to our topic. The children listened to books about caterpillars and butterflies, joined in with songs, and developed their listening and attention skills.
It has been a lovely week full of exploration, and we look forward to continuing our observations next week!
